RAID-1 contains 2 or more drives in mirror set where each drive contains complete set of data blocks. RAID-1 was designed to gain the level of data protection and reading operation speed without any intention to increate write speed or initial drive space. As a result, the space of RAID-1 is a bit smaller that the size of one drive in the array. The reading speed is N-times faster that the single drive for N-drives array, however, the write speed is a bit slower that single drive, as it's important to write the full data set to each drive and make some changes to the system area of RAID-1.

On typical two-drive RAID-1 set each drive contains same data blocks. If one block is damaged, it's not a problem, as there's another block on another drive. Even if block A1 is damaged on disk 1 and block A2 is damaged on disk 2, the file will be read without any problem, as there are another copies of A1 and A2 in the array. This makes the two-drive array twice safer than single drive.

However, even with such level of safety, you can meet the problems with array. In such cases RAID Recovery is ready to help you in RAID disk recovery. It understands the structure of RAID-1 and can find the ways to improve success of RAID disk recovery.

How can I recover RAID-1 with RAID Recovery?

If you can't access some files or even the whole array, it's time to start RAID disk recovery procedure. You need to disable the RAID and make drives appear as separate devices to let RAID Recovery manage the recovery process completely. Begin RAID disk recovery by starting the RAID Wizard. Configure the Wizard mode as on the picture - select Standard Mode and RAID.

On the next of RAID disk recovery screen select RAID level as RAID-1, choose disk count you've used in the array. For RAID-1 you don't need to set up any stripe size, striping is not used there.

Next form will ask you to select the drives you've used in your RAID. Select them and continue RAID disk recovery.

On the RAID constructor screen of RAID disk recovery you should check all the available RAID configurations and leave at least one that matches your file and folder structure closely. If your RAID don't have any major problems, all the configurations will look identical unlike RAID-0, where only one configuration will look correctly.

When you'll complete the RAID Wizard, your new virtually created RAID will appear in the list of devices available to scan marked in red. Now click it to open Disk Wizard to continue RAID disk recovery.
