How to Use File Undelete

Using Recovery Wizard to Recover Files and Data

NOTE: If you'd like to see Recovery Wizard every time you run File Undelete, make sure the "Show wizard on startup" check box is selected.
Selecting Drive Letter
Select a drive letter or a directory on the hard drive being recovered to scan for lost and deleted files. Click Next.
The Scanner Window shows working progress displaying the number of lost and deleted files and folders discovered. Recovering large numbers of files or processing big hard disks may take a good while; this is normal behavior.
After the scan is complete, click Finish. You'll see recoverable files in an Explorer-like window. With File Undelete, you can use most techniques available in Windows Explorer such as file search, tree and folder view, moving back and forward, file details.
Saving Recoverable Data
The recovery process is not complete until you fix the recoverable files by saving them. Make sure to use a different drive letter, separate hard disk, network location, memory card or USB thumb drive to save recoverable files to. If you save the files onto the disk being recovered, you will be risking in losing more data in the process than you recover.
Many types of files can be previewed before they are recovered. You can preview digital pictures, many types of Microsoft Office documents, archives, multimedia files, and certain other types of data even in the free edition of File Undelete.
Select files and folders you want to recover, and click "Recover" to save them. This will launch the "Export Wizard" that will allow you selecting a place to save the data to. Select a location to place the recovered files to, and click Next.
The last step of the Recovery Wizard displays a confirmation window with a link to access recovered data. Click the link to view the files you've just recovered, or click Finish.
Recovering Data without Recovery Wizard
If you prefer, you can gain full manual control over the data recovery process. Simply close the Recovery Wizard to begin.
In manual recovery more, you can recover partitions or the entire hard drive. Generally, if you can see a partition that holds files you want to recover, you should select the partition. If something bad happened, and the partition no longer appears as a drive letter, File Undelete will perform the full scan of your hard drive in order to locate recoverable partitions. After that, File Undelete will scan them for lost and deleted files. This can take quite a while if you have a large disk with lots of data.
Click Next to begin the disk scan.
Select a partition and click Next.
If you know what file system was there on the disk (FAT or NTFS), select one and click Next. Specify location to save the recovered files to, and click Next.
After the scan is complete, click Finish. You'll see recoverable files in an Explorer-like window. With File Undelete, you can use most techniques available in Windows Explorer such as file search, tree and folder view, moving back and forward, file details.
Select files and folders you want to recover, and click "Recover" to save them. This will launch the "Export Wizard" that will allow you selecting a place to save the data to. Select a location to place the recovered files to, and click Next.
The "Recovered files" Folder
The "Recovered files" folder will contain lost and deleted files discovered with the SmartSearch algorithm. Only certain types of files can be rescued this way, including most office documents, compressed archives, digital pictures, email and multimedia files. You can preview these files before recovering them by simply clicking on them. Note that preview works even in the free edition of File Undelete.
Pre-recovery preview
In order to recover files and folders, mark them and click "Recover". The Export Wizard will be displayed to obtain information on the place where you'd like to save data being recovered.

"Thank you so much for your support, I really appreciate your service. Whenever I get in touch with a person that
has a similar HDD problem I will recommend your product.
Almost all files could be recovered. I tested various products
but not one could recover as much as yours. Just great!!"
Beat Stemmler, Switzerland
"I have been able to recover and save all of the really critical files that were lost and now I am verifying that they are ok.
One of the most critical things was the backup
that was taken just prior to the damage. So far, with just a few glitches, I have been able to recover the whole backup.
I am impressed with this program. I tried a number of tools to get this data back and Drive Recovery was the only one that would
do more than just show me some of the lost folders. Nice work."
Emery Nash, United States
"I'll surely recommend 1st NTFS Recovery and the Support Team!"
